#PoliceState

definition of Police State in the Oxford Dictionary:

noun

  • a totalitarian state controlled by a political police force that secretly supervises the citizens’ activities.

At this point in time the English Police Force is still largely apolitical, it is under attack by an increasing dictatorial government bent on bringing in more and more repressive laws against its citizens.  With this in mind I have come to the conclusion that the government wishes to decimate the force that currently exists in this country and gradually bring in more and more privatisation via corporations like G4S with a view to being able to exercise more and more political control over the police and therefore the citizenship.

The police are members of the public, as individuals they have the same mix of personalities and preferences as any other sector of the public, both good and bad.  The Police as an organisation is as flawed as any other organisation, but on the whole, despite meeting some absolute bastards, most officers are there not to indulge in their own warped agendas but to serve and protect.

I believe that this does not suit our government.  I believe they want the *idealist* cops to leave or be forced out by spurious allegations of *bringing the service into disrepute* aided by the complicity of some senior officers and the forced silencing of others.

I do not say these things lightly or do I wish them to be true.  My eyes and ears daily convince me that this is the most likely explanation for what is taking place.  I personally know many exemplary officers of different ranks both in real life and via social media.  I have chosen to walk alongside these and give any support that I can, whilst condemning the wrong attitudes and actions of the few who are acting as saboteurs of the force I wish to continue to exist.  At times this will bring individual officers into conflict with the wishes of the government.  This is where the Law should protect them and us, however, the laws and rules are being changed.

This scares me as much, if not more than losing the NHS and having our school curriculum run by edicts from on high by an inept Education Minister and our Fire Service cut.

Am I being melodramatic?  Have I misunderstood?

Are we living in a Police State or is it more that our Police are in a state?

Please tell me your views

No you are not being dramatic. Distancing police from the public is deliberate policy. Fixated Threat Assessment centres were created under Blair, and at them any person can section an arrestee without due process or psychiatric assessment. Stalinist arrest and release techniques have been used to intimidate the public, and a thug section of police has been created for crowd control. We are I think the most surveilled country in Europe, and our protective laws have been damaged, so that liberties can be restricted. Any fascist totalitarian administration always want micro control over the people, using fear to control the public.
